The Valley had seven cities with less than a million, but more than 100,000 residents in the year 2000. These cities were: Chandler, Peoria, Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, Glendale and Gilbert. That same year, Phoenix boasted a population of over a million people.

Houses that are located in gated communities can be expensive, but townhouses and condominium complexes offer an affordable gated option. Many are in the median price range. They offer a sense of security, recreational amenities, and an affordable alternative to buying in a more costly gated neighborhood.
